Bring Your Horse...
When only the best for you and your own horse will do saddle up and come to Lower Buckton where our experience in catering for 'horse holidays' will knock spots off the rest.
If you are hot to trot you and your horse will love your holiday at Lower Buckton. After squeezing fresh oranges and tucking into free-range eggs and locally cured bacon for breakfast stagger across the yard to the stables which are newly- converted in an eighteenth century long barn.
Horses at Lower Buckton are brought on a DIY basis and all the stables are supplied with a shavings bed with plenty more on site which can be bought for topping-up throughout the stay. Excellent meadow hay is for sale but please order it and any hard feed on booking. Turnout is in an ancient water meadow a hedge away from the meandering River Teme.
From Lower Buckton you and your horse can trot off down leafy lanes or grassy bridlepaths that lead into 1000's acres of forestry and woods from which there is a multitudinous choice of directions!
Ride the ramparts of a pre-historic fortification and survey the world from an Iron Age fort or cross the border into Wales and ride an ancient drovers' road. For some slightly more modern architecture there are romantic ruined castles and hidden churches to explore. You can experience three counties' riding in one day - Shropshire, Herefordshire and cross the Welsh border into the old county of Radnorshire and you won't even need your passport! Stunning views from mountain and moorland over completely unspoilt country where the hills roll into Wales. The area is criss-crossed with quiet lanes, tracks and bridlepaths that follow the ancient packhorse ways over which drovers would have shepherded flocks of sheep to the Border towns' markets
Carolyn is often available to accompany you on Jasper or Ayesha and her Pub Runs have always been a specialty - the lunchtime stops carefully chosen for being extremely horse-friendly with tying-up spots and even a turn-out paddock so that you can get down to serious refreshment.
Hack home through woods that open onto beautifully laid out eighteenth century parkland belonging to a country house secreted behind a famous Yew tree hedge. Or follow a carriage-drive past a castellated Gothic mansion and have a photo' stop beside the lake.
On your return to Lower Buckton you will find an extremely comfortable old house with all the usual trappings to ensure that you feel at home. Sprawl in front of a blazing fire sipping wine before eating a scrumptious dinner cooked by Carolyn and served by Henry. Loads of antiques, books and curios in spacious rooms. Cosy beds and deep baths with lots of bubbles to soothe aching bones from long days in the saddle.

For the enthusiasts, hunting can be arranged with local foxhounds - the Ludlow, Teme Valley and United hunts' countries border Lower Buckton. Please ask for details.
Point to points are always hugely popular and there are two meetings on the Brampton Bryan course which is overlooked by the house and garden so bring your binoculars! Otherwise Ludlow's pretty racecourse is only seven miles away and race days are colourful occasions. Obviously, there are lots of shows etc locally but too numerous to mention. We can always find something to keep you busy. For lazy days explore Ludlow and its surrounding area - there is always loads to see and do.
But, above all, feel free to treat Lower Buckton as home and spend as much time as you like relaxing in the house and gardens and messing about with the horses!
Parties from two up to six people/horses with local overspill available for larger groups.
